Ngā Mahi | The Opportunity

As a Specialist Operator your role will be to ensure the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and machinery during asphalt and chipseal projects, while adhering to safety standards and project specifications. You will operate a variety of specialist equipment including bobcats, rollers, pavers and Class 2 trucks. You will also participate in other labouring tasks depending on the project specifications. 

Ngā Haepapa | Key Responsibilities

• Operate pavers, sprayers, rollers, and other asphalt/chip seal machinery to ensure precision and quality. 

• Prepare work sites by clearing debris and ensuring surfaces are clean and ready for application. 

• Apply asphalt or chip seal layers accurately, including hand spraying, spreading, and raking to meet project specifications. 

• Use compactors and rollers to achieve the required density, texture, and smooth finishes. 

• Monitor and adjust material distribution to ensure consistent and high-quality results that align with project requirements. 

• Conduct pre-start checks, routine maintenance, and minor troubleshooting to keep machinery in optimal condition. 

• Safely load, secure, and transport machinery and materials while adhering to regulations. 

• Work effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and alignment on project goals. 

• Material handling, shovelling and spreading, pack down equipment, clean tools, and maintain a tidy worksite. 

• Meet safety standards, use PPE, and promptly report hazards or incidents to maintain a safe work environment. 

• Assist with hand tools and other on-site tasks as required to get the job done.

Ōu Pūkenga | About You

Must Haves:

• Class 2

• Proficiency in operating a Paving machine

• 4 to 6 years plant operation experience

• Productive and unsupervised operator of all asphalt and chipseal plant

• Construct Safe or Site Safe Passport

Desirable:

• Class 4  

• WTR endorsement 

• Asphalt paving experience 

• First Aid Certificate 

• Bitumen Handling Certificate 

• Flexible to work days and nights
