Ngā Mahi | The Opportunity

The Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment and machinery at the asphalt manufacturing plant. This role contributes to the production of high-quality asphalt products by performing pre-start inspections, maintaining equipment, managing deliveries, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental standards.

Ngā Haepapa | Key Responsibilities

  • Operate machinery, including loaders, watercarts, and power-brooms, to produce asphalt.

  • Conduct pre-start checks and ensure equipment is operational.

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.

  • Sample and log asphalt and aggregates for quality testing.

  • Attend toolbox talks, shift change meetings, and Health & Safety (H&S) briefings.

  • Report all incidents, accidents, and near-misses to the supervisor.

  • Participate in fire drills, spill response exercises, and emergency preparedness drills.

  • Perform Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe operations.

  • Oversee site deliveries, including inspecting and verifying delivery dockets.

  • Fuel and clean machines to ensure smooth operations.

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on plant equipment as required.

  • Conduct aggregate gradings on a rostered basis.

  • Deliver material samples to the laboratory for testing.

  • Maintain accurate sample logs and ensure compliance with quality standards.

  • Report equipment faults and site issues to the supervisor promptly.

  • Collaborate with team members to achieve production targets and maintain site standards.

  • Provide mentorship to enhance team members' skills and knowledge.

  • Ensure best practices are implemented, and monitor, measure, and act to achieve desired outcomes.

Ōu Pūkenga | About You

Must Have:

  • Full Drivers Licence - Class 1.

  • Ideally 3 Years experience in a plant or manufacturing role.

  • Permanent Rights to work in New Zealand.

Good to Have:

  • Drivers Licence - Class W, F

  • Safe handling of bitumen

  • First Aid

  • Permit receiver

  • Working at heights

  • Confined space & gas detection

  • JSA competency

  • LOTO competency

  • Fire extinguisher training
